Disney +: account sharing soon to be paid for in France?
It's official, streaming giant Disney + has decided to follow in Netflix's footsteps by ending its tolerance for account sharing in Canada as of November1. As a result, additional fees will be applied for users who wish to continue giving access to their subscriptions to people outside the household [1].
Already available in Latin America, it is now being rolled out in Canada. Users in this country can now add a member to their account at an additional cost of €7.60 per month. An additional cost that impacts the monthly budget allocated to this service by users.
This ban on account sharing is in addition to the new subscription that Disney + will be offering from November1. In Canada, a number of European countries and France in particular, the streaming giant will be launching an ad-supported subscription priced at €5.99 per month. [2].
No announcement has yet been made for France on the subject of paid account sharing, but following the example of Netflix, this model could be deployed in Europe after tests abroad to measure its effects.
The price of the Standard subscription in Canada is therefore set to rise from €11.99 [3] to €19.59 per month (converted to euros) with this new feature, an increase of around 63% on the initial price. In France, such an increase is dreaded by users, all the more so at a time of high inflation.
In this context, solutions exist to enable you to continue using streaming platforms without paying the full price! Such is the case with Spliiit, which lets you share the cost of subscriptions between several users. A solution that can save you up to 70% on your bill!
The platform already enables subscription fees to be shared, by allowing account users to offer the remaining spaces on their subscriptions to split the monthly fee. The subscription owner and co-subscribers thus share the same account to benefit from a lower-cost service.
" Since 2019 our aim has been to democratize and simplify the sharing of subscriptions between individuals, and we're campaigning to get publishers to offer sharing by invitation link. 80% of the services offered on Spliiit already use this system. Our users are delighted to be able to continue enjoying their subscriptions at a lower cost, while making real savings, " explains Guillaume Lochard, co-founder of Spliiit.
