Spotify Premium subscription price increase, +80% co-subscription on Spliiit on day of announcement

On Monday July 24, Spotify, the music streaming service, announced an increase in its Premium subscription rates. This is an unprecedented measure, as the Premium subscription has always been charged at the same rate since the company's inception in France in 2009. ^[1].

The subscription, initially billed at €9.99, is now €10.99 per month for ad-free, offline music on demand. The student subscription increases from €4.99 to €5.99. Finally, the "duo" and "family" subscriptions have been increased by €2, from €12.99 to €14.99 and from €15.99 to €17.99 respectively. ^[2]. These are significant increases that are putting a strain on French consumers' wallets.

To save money and continue paying for your Spotify subscription at a lower cost, there are other solutions.

Such is the case with the Spliiit platform, which enables users to share the cost of their subscriptions by offering the remaining places on their subscriptions to split the monthly fee. 

" On average, we're at 80 new co-subscriptions and 30 new shares per day on Spotify's service since January^1, 2023. Since the announcement of Spotify's subscription price increase, in just two days we have recorded a total of 358 new co-subscriptions (up from an average of 80% on July 24 and 167% on July 25). As for account shares, there were 130 new co-subscribers (up from an average of 33.33% on July 24 and 200% on July 25). These data, and hence the popularity of this service, demonstrate the interest of the French in continuing to enjoy their subscription while making savings through subscription sharing. With Spliiit, a Spotify subscription costs just €3.50 a month for one user, which means real savings," explains Guillaume Lochard, co-founder of Spliiit.
