Entertainment prices up by +3% to 9%, subscription sharing to cut costs
The inflation that has been affecting the French in recent months is forcing them to rethink their consumption patterns and prioritize spending. According to the latest figures published by P2 NielsenIQ, leisure spending in France has fallen by 12%.
This phenomenon is explained by price hikes, particularly for entertainment subscriptions, which are constantly increasing in price. Last year, most SVOD platforms increased their subscription prices by an average of 9% in one year. The same applies to music platforms, which increased their subscription prices by 3.2% in one year. The video game sector is also affected by this crisis, and subscription prices are no exception. Online gaming and media services Playstation Plus and Xbox Game Pass have expressed their willingness to increase the price of their subscriptions on their respective platforms.
These price increases are therefore weighing ever more heavily on the wallets of the French, who are opting to go without these subscriptions or even resort to piracy. Indeed, a recent study by Muso revealed that film piracy increased last year by around 40% compared to 2021. According to industry experts, the increase will continue this year due to rising cinema ticket prices and video platform subscriptions.
To continue indulging yourself while preserving your budget in complete legality, other solutions exist. This is notably the case with Spliiit, a platform that enables subscription fees to be shared between several users.
Spliiit provides the opportunity to share subscription fees by allowing account users to offer the remaining places on their subscriptions in order to split the monthly fee. The subscription owner and co-subscribers thus share the same account to enjoy a lower-cost service.
"We enable users to continue to enjoy themselves while keeping an eye on their budget. Thanks to Spliiit, monthly subscription costs are divided by 2 or 3, with an average subscription rate of 3.5 euros on Spliiit, saving over 300 euros a year. We offer 190 subscriptions to share in a dozen verticals, including SVOD, music, video games and wellness. The French can therefore continue to treat themselves while preserving their purchasing power - a real godsend in this inflationary context," explains Guillaume Lochard, co-founder of Spliiit.
